The PSDS Annual Campaign: Bringing Them Home

Our daily operations are overseen by a board of directors that believes as strongly as we do in this dream—not just because it’s a smart solution to a growing problem, but also because it’s a smart solution that includes easily attainable goals and desired outcomes—a solution that WILL make a difference and have a lasting impact for many generations to come.

Your support transforms the lives of so many senior dogs as we continue to ramp up to full capacity at our facility. With gifts of $5,000 or greater, each donor will become a member of our Legacy Circle, which includes even more perks and benefits to be enjoyed.

Explore ways to maximize your giving impact for our Capital Campaign through Planned Giving and Naming Opportunities explained below.

Planned Giving

ANOTHER WAY YOU CAN HELP US MEET OUR FUNDRAISING GOALS

Certainly the easiest way to give to a charitable organization is to simply write a check or use your credit card. But there are several other options, some that may offer a greater advantage to you than traditional cash or credit card gifts.

Planned Giving offers a number of ways to make a more substantial gift than you might otherwise consider. These gifts also offer a number of advantages. With a planned gift, you can create a legacy for you or your family, and your gift will have a lasting impact on a cause you care about. Be sure to consult with your financial planner to find out which type of gift best suits your situation. Or you can talk to one of our giving advisors free of charge.

We would be honored to answer any questions you may have about this process. Please contact Development@psds.org if you have any questions.

Below we outline a few planned giving options you might want to consider:

Hands looking at documents

Donor Advised Funds

One of the easiest and most tax-advantageous ways to give to charity. A DAF is like a charitable investment account, for the sole purpose of supporting your favorite charitable organizations. When you contribute cash, securities or other assets to a donor-advised fund, you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth and you can recommend grants specifically for PSDS.

Tribute Gifts

You can also make a gift in honor or memory of someone special, whether they are canine or human. Tribute gifts are the perfect way to honor that canine companion who has passed on but whose memory will live on through your generosity, because they will be a part of what we are building.

Bequests

These are one of the simplest, most impactful, and popular ways to make a planned gift. To make a charitable bequest, simply allocate a portion of your estate to PSDS in your legal will.

Life Insurance Policies and Retirement Accounts

You can also give from your life insurance policy or unused retirement assets. These include individual retirement accounts (IRAs), 401(k)s, 403(b)s, or pensions. Because these gifts are often larger than what you could give in your lifetime, they can have an even greater impact.

Charitable Gift Annuities

You can give an irrevocable gift of cash or securities in exchange for a fixed income payment for asset term or for life. You can take an immediate tax deduction while the beneficiary can invest and grow the funds. Many donors choose to defer their annuity payments until they retire, resulting in higher payments.

Charitable Remainder

These allow you to contribute cash or appreciated securities. You receive a fixed income based on a percentage of the initial assets used to fund the trust. The beneficiary can invest the funds, while you avoid capital gains or estate taxes. At the end of the annuity trust’s term, the remaining balance goes to the beneficiary.

Naming Opportunities

A LEGACY OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR NAME ON OUR CAMPUS

The following are designated spaces and places on our campus where your name can be proudly displayed.
Naming opportunities are a wonderful way to honor or memorialize someone special, or to display your family name on an area that holds special meaning. In addition to the spaces listed below, naming opportunities can also be customized.

Arena — $1,700,000 - SOLD
The central meeting area for our year-round dog park. A place for our volunteers, employees, and residents to relax and keep an eye on 100% of the dog park.

Medical Clinic — $1,000,000
Our onsite medical clinic will have full X-Ray and surgery capabilities, special hospice services, and quarantine bedrooms with separate outdoor areas. Perhaps the most crucial place in the sanctuary, you will be helping hundreds of dogs receive the love and care they deserve for the rest of their lives.

Dog Enrichment Park (Zone 5) — $500,000
In addition to grass and benches for dogs and volunteers, this oasis of goodness will include innovative enrichment elements to keep our dogs engaged and using their senses. Mental stimulation and exercise are crucial for all dogs, including seniors. Keeping them active helps promote health and encourages their ease in navigating surroundings if their eyesight, hearing, or memory might be declining.

The benefits of dog enrichment and exercise are critical pieces of our program. They help: prevent boredom that may result in destructive behavior, nuisance barking, or even escaping; stimulate brain growth and improve problem-solving skills; build confidence and social skills and prevent depression; keep muscles and joints moving and assist with weight management. And who doesn’t want to feel like a puppy again, having fun adventures each day?

Some of the notable park elements will include:
The King of the Hill, an incline challenge for dogs to walk or run up and descend the other side at their own pace and confidence level. It also helps develop their endurance and capacity for dogs who need exercise and encouragement. Faux fire hydrants—for all the obvious reasons—and gumball machines that distribute dog treats will also be included in the Dog Enrichment Park's fun features!

Hydrotherapy — $400,000
Hydrotherapy, a water cure, is a branch of alternative medicine, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy that involves water — gentle underwater movement and exercise — for pain relief and treatment of things like arthritis, injury and regaining mobility for those who have prior limitations. For example, aquatic therapy for dogs is a low-impact treatment that can help to improve a pup's strength, range of motion, and endurance. In addition, the buoyancy properties of water minimize weight-bearing stress on the joints, which helps prevent tissue injuries, inflammation, and pain—all of which are invaluable for senior dogs in need of relief and rehabilitation.

Lounge of Luxury — $300,000
This kitchen/living room will serve as a room where humans and pups have a place to unwind and relax together. Doubling as our Board Game/BINGO and Volunteer Lounge, this space area will provide volunteers and staff a sunny space to spend one-on-one time with the dogs, watch movies, enjoy naps, and more.

Indoor Sensory Garden (Zone 6) — $250,000
Many dogs at Pepper’s Senior Dog Sanctuary are blind or visually impaired, challenging their ability to move around quickly. Our new sanctuary will feature an indoor sensory garden that provides a safe environment with activities specifically designed for old or medically compromised dogs so they can feel like their younger self again. Your donation will help provide different textures on the floor, wind chimes, water features, natural light, and smells from the dog-friendly sensory garden. We want to bring joy back to these deserving dogs who deserve to live with comfort, happiness and a sense of security.

Bedroom — $100,000
Each bedroom suite is specially designed to house senior dogs and meet their unique needs. Giving dogs freedom and meeting their accessibility needs to choose what’s best for them is what we’re all about.

Lazy Dog Lounge (Zone 1) — $75,000
No “lazy dog lounge” is complete without a lazy dog cubicle, and this lazy dog cubicle is the crème of the crop! Specially designed by Antonio Ballatore from Animal Cribs, Antonio made sure to consider some of our more subdued and relaxed residents by building a perch where they could kick back and enjoy the scenery in a cozy vertical nook without engaging. This area will feature multiple dog cubicles made with marine plywood with Linex coating for easy cleanup. In addition, the ramp on the backside will allow our residents to access different levels. This is perfect for those dogs who want to be a part of the action without leaving the comfort of their area.

Command Central (Zone 3) — $60,000
This is a flexible area that will be used for introductions, confidence building, therapy training, and agility. We can also use these areas to separate different groups of dogs, like larger from smaller, older, more fragile, and aggressive.

Grooming Spa and Salon —$50,000 - SOLD
This state-of-the-art grooming experience for our residents includes two grooming sinks and tables on hydraulics lift systems specially designed for our old and medically compromised residents. Our space provides the healthiest, happiest experience for our senior pups to be their best. And it all begins with loving hands, proper hygiene, and grooming care.

Flexible Dog Park (Zone 4) — $45,000
This serves as a flexible area that will be used for introductions, confidence building, therapy training, and agility. We can also use these areas to separate different groups of dogs, like larger from smaller, older, more fragile, and aggressive.

Take A 'Paws' and Celebrate Donor Recognition Lobby Wall — $10,000
This artistically designed, one-of-a-kind recognition wall will stop you as you take a 'paws' on your visit to see and honor all those who have donated $10,000 or more.

The Outcome of Your Support

PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORT IS THE MOST CRITICAL INGREDIENT OF OUR SUCCESS

Our vision cannot be realized without it. It is the foundation upon which our mission comes to life. There is no question that the need is significant, and the problem will only get worse without the execution of our detailed plan. Fortunately, we have designed a very sound solution that is ready to be enacted. We have recruited the best professionals, we’ve crafted an exemplary business model, we have an incredibly strong support and partner network that includes the endorsement of several respected animal welfare agencies. And we have the ideal property on which our new state-of-the-art facility is being constructed. All the pieces are in place. Well, almost all of them. We still need you.

We don’t expect you to fully comprehend our passion or stand by our mission if you are not a lover of animals. But we hope our message is compelling enough for you to believe in that passion and trust in our mission because, when executed, that mission will save the lives of countless senior dogs, and impact the greater community in a way that alters how we look at these wonderful creatures and, more importantly, how we value them. It would be unthinkable to imagine a world where humans are randomly sent to their death simply because of their age, or because of health conditions that require long-term medical treatment, or because they have a less-than-cheerful demeanor towards others. Your support will help bring about a significant reduction in the number of dogs who fall to such a fate. But most of all, it will create a wonderful, loving, caring, and nurturing environment in a safe and comforting forever home for so many senior dogs, as well as a beautiful hospice center where they will continue to receive the best possible treatment, love and care right up to their very last breath. We are creating the ideal forever home, where they’ll be among other senior dogs in a communal environment that offers love, 24-hour care, companionship, shelter, and medical care as needed. And when they finally come to the end of their journey, they’ll receive round-the-clock hospice care to ensure they are well cared-for up to the moment they take their last breath. It offers all the comforts of home—in fact, quite possibly better than any other home they’ve known. This is the home they deserve.

They’ve given us their love and loyalty. They know our likes and dislikes. They redefine what it means to be a best friend. The joy we have received from them is priceless, and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. Having given us so much, don’t they deserve to spend their final years in peace and comfort? We think so, and that’s why we created Pepper's Senior Dog Sanctuary. It is a remarkably satisfying moment when you realize that your efforts have made such a significant difference, giving an even greater purpose to your life—one of the moments that, if we’re lucky, will come only once or twice in a lifetime. For us, this is one of those moments.

Please join us. Your support is an integral part of this labor of love. You will know that you’ve played a significant role in giving them just a sliver of what they’ve given us over the years.

We owe them that. Please help us bring them home.
